Proxmox VE 3.1 – Subscription required for enterprise updates

The latest Proxmox VE 3.1 release requires a valid subscription to access stable updates, security patches and bug-fixes. Unsurprisingly this has stirred the community and caused a bit of a divide. The divide however seems to be between those who think that open source means free software (as in no price tag attached), and those who understand the concept of software freedom. After all, who said you couldn’t make money with open source software. For the record, Proxmox VE is still licensed under aGPL v3.

Installing a BlueOnyx OpenVZ template with Proxmox VE

The following article demonstrates one approach to installing and configuring a BlueOnyx OpenVZ container using Proxmox VE 1.9. If you’re familiar with Proxmox VE you might have noticed that BlueOnyx has been pulled from the list of community maintained appliances. The story behind that is not worth repeating, but the official BlueOnyx OpenVZ template is free of charge so it doesn’t make much of a difference.
