Njalla goes TITSUP and paranoidpenguin.net gets wiped off the clearnet

It’s always DNS, right? Well, at least that appeared to be the root cause today as Njalla’s DNS servers became unresponsive. I don’t know how this could happen with anycast DNS, but regardless, every service went offline. My initial concern was that the unscheduled downtime could be the result of actions taken by law enforcement.

Believe it or not, Njalla does have a few customers with less than honorable intentions, so legal actions are not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Njalla is coincidentally also the legal owner of the paranoidpenguin.net domain name, and thus I would likely lose the domain if law enforcement were to interfere.

Anyhow, a couple of hours later and everything was fixed. I’m a bit surprised that Njalla’s entire infrastructure appears to have failed simultaneously, but I guess someone tripped over the killswitch. You know, those huts are tiny and it must be hard getting around in there ;-)
